About CountyLedger
CountyLedger turns statewide parcel records into county-level facts about who owns the land. It started as a question asked while looking at real estate: in a given county, how much of the land is held by people who don't live there, how much sits empty, and how much is tied up in estates? The records to answer that are public, but they come one parcel at a time, in a different format in every state.
Who makes it
CountyLedger is made by the CountyLedger team, based in North Carolina.
What it covers
States are added as their parcel records are brought into the same format. The home page lists the states covered so far and the date of each state's data. A state that isn't listed has no pages yet; it doesn't mean its land has no out-of-state owners.
What it won't do
CountyLedger publishes county totals only. It won't show who owns a particular parcel, list owners, or take a name or an address as a search. The parcel records it counts from are public at the county or state level for anyone who needs a single property.
Corrections
If a number looks wrong for a county you know, please get in touch with the county and what you found. Most errors trace back to how a county publishes its records, and the fix goes into the processing, so it applies everywhere on the next refresh.
Not advice
These figures describe public records. They aren't investment, legal or tax advice, and a county's numbers can be off where its records are incomplete.
